a BOOK in the offing

writinginsideVT received most EXCELLENT news this morning!

Orbis Books will publish a book of the raw, unvarnished writings of Vermont’s incarcerated women as participants in the writinginsideVT program.  The book (title TBD) will be released in Fall 2013. Sarah and I are pinching ourselves. We also can’t wait to tell the ‘inside’ women writers!

The book will open with an introduction by Sarah and me, which details the imprisoned women we work with, their pathways to incarceration, the Women Writing for (a) Change model utilized, and the personal journeys that led us to this ‘inside’ work.

Sarah and I hope the book will serve as a call to action among readers, connecting them to the world of incarceration in America and our social responsibility to transform this non-rehabilitative system that robs people of human dignity.

As if a BOOK wasn’t enough to celebrate, the Burlington Free Press published my essay this week about the writinginsideVT program.  You may have caught it on Facebook already, but if not, here it is again.

So please celebrate with us, loyal blog readers!  Your interest and support have brought us to this great moment.

Marybeth: Congratulations on the book publishing. It will certainly draw people’s attention to imprisoned women and their plight.

Thanks, too, for the beautiful article. Keep up your good work.
